Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine Now Approved for Ages 12-15

5/12/2021  |   9:53 p.m. CT

Following Wednesday’s meeting of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), the CDC now recommends that the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine be used among individuals ages 12 to 15, and providers may begin vaccinating this age group right away. Governor Asa Hutchinson announced on Tuesday that younger Arkansans could begin seeking appointments for shots, so some hospitals may have already begun receiving requests.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has issued a policy statement recommending that all eligible children, teens, family and household members be vaccinated as soon as possible, and the AAP also supports giving other childhood and adolescent immunizations at the same time as COVID-19 vaccines – particularly children and teens who are behind on their immunizations.
