What is Patient and Family Engagement?

Here's how CMS defines it

"Patients and families are partners in defining, designing, participating in and assessing the care practices and systems that serve them to assure they are respectful of and responsive to individual patient preferences, needs, and values. This collaborative engagement allows patient values to guide all clinical decisions and drives genuine transformation in attitudes, behavior, and practice."

Who We Are

Arkansas Hospital Association (AHA) determined that to build a solid foundation for our hospitals to implement Patient and Family Engagement activities, a state-level advisory committee was needed. This collaboration is vital to understanding the needs of Arkansas patients and hospitals. At the state level, the AHA PFAC serves to provide insight into the unique perspective of a patient or family member and to help provide guidance on how to improve the delivery of care at our hospitals by implementing a hospital-level PFAC.

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote and support acceptance and positive change in health care across Arkansas, by creating an environment where patients and family members feel safe, respected, and empowered to be partners in their care. The ultimate goal of AHA is for every hospital in Arkansas to implement a Patient and Family Advisory Committee.

Our Vision

Our vision is for all health care in Arkansas to engage patients and families as partners, to deliver care that is safe, equitable, effective, efficient, and timely.
